“I am a high school teacher, and sadly, one of my 9th-grade students lost a parent last year.
Another student in the class wrote in a check-in survey that he would like to keep his assigned seat next to the student who lost a parent. He wrote that he knew that since his classmate was having a hard year, he wanted to try to do something small in class every day to make his classmate smile.
This student had other friends in the class who he was closer with, so it was amazing to see that he would prioritize looking out for a classmate in a difficult time over spending time with his friends.
Thinking about his empathy, selflessness, and kindness still makes me smile!”

“I had a really tough day last week while recovering from a sinus infection, and I joked with a friend over the phone that whenever I was sick as a kid, my mom would buy me a bottle of apple juice.
I told him I was planning to order one after my work-from-home day to make the day a little sweeter.
No sooner had we gotten off the call than I got a text saying my order was on the way. He had sent a bottle of apple juice to my house from hundreds of miles away via grocery delivery.
I burst into tears. It didn’t seem like a big deal but that level of intentional care was what I didn’t know I needed in that moment.”

“I was sitting at a red light in bumper-to-bumper traffic the other day after a brutal workday. That is normal in my city. The guy in the pickup truck next to me had his window down, blasting mid-2000s pop punk (think Fall Out Boy vibes).
He looked over, saw me looking at him, and instead of getting awkward, he dialed up the volume, pointed at me, and started aggressively lip-syncing the chorus.
I started laughing, and then we gave each other a quick nod and drove off. Didn’t even catch his name.”
